Anthony Joshua mercilessly ridiculed with brutal comparisons to Olympic breakdancer Raygun
Dubois put in a stunning performance to send Joshua crashing to the canvas and fans have now taken to social media to mock AJ for the manner of his shock defeat
Anthony Joshua was knocked out by Daniel Dubois
Anthony Joshua has been compared to infamous Olympic break dancer ‘Raygun’ following his defeat by Daniel Dubois.
Dubois stunned the boxing world at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night as he produced a spectacular performance to send AJ crashing to the canvas. While Joshua will no doubt be nursing a sore head following the humbling by DDD, he will now also have to deal with relentless mocking by boxing fans.
Viewers of the fight have shown no mercy with a series of brutal posts that have contrasted his tribulations in the ring to that of the much-ridiculed Australian dancer. ‘Raygun’, aka 36-year-old Rachael Gunn, lost all three of her Olympic battles in Paris following a series of bizarre dances that caused her to be jeered around the world.
Former two-time champion Joshua was dropped in the first, third and fourth rounds but beat the count on both occasions, however he was then finished off in the fifth. His struggles have since been greeted with nothing but laughter after he appeared to take on some of the similar positions Raygun was throwing in her doomed Olympic showing as he attempted to get back up.
Just over 98,000 fans inside Wembley saw Joshua floored in what was a humiliating night for the 34-year-old. As much as AJ did his best to fight the final count, he failed to do so forcing the referee to call it for Dubois and consequently give the green light for a litany of social media savaging for the former Olympian.
A series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, followed with one fan observing: ‘AJ was doing his best Raygun impression in the corner at the end there”. More of the same continued with another stating ‘AJ scored more breakdancing points than raygun’.

After Joshua failed to return to his feet following Dubois’ fight winning jab, another X user mocked his extravagant attempts to stand up saying: ‘AJ channelling his inner Raygun was not something I ever expected to see. He’d have won a medal in the Olympic breaking with this crazy move’.

Another savvy poster even noted that Joshua’s fall was similar to Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven’s last season when the centre back was turned by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and sent to the floor.
Raygun’s performances became a meme after her showing at the Paris Olympics (

The fight never really got going for Joshua. He was dropped by Dubois with seconds of the first round remaining which set the tone for the next 15 minutes.
Joshua managed to recover thanks in part to the bell sounding but was soon facing intense pressure at the start of the second round as he laboured and looked out of sorts. Dubois turned the screw in the third round and AJ was dropped again at the end, falling to the canvas after the bell.
He survived that count but was down again at the start of the fourth round. Dubois was then relentless as he stalked his compatriot around the ring and caught Joshua to send him flat on his face.
The memes then began to write themselves as he struggled to find his footing and was unable to stand up as the referee ended proceedings.

“Are you not entertained?” Dubois asked a lively crowd after his victory. Little did he know their entertainment was just beginning, having opened social media apps to see hundreds of posts lampooning the manner of Joshua’s shock loss.
After the win, the 27-year-old could not hide his elation. He also claimed he isn’t going to stop in his quest for more glory, saying: “I’ve just been on a rollercoaster ride. This is my time, this is my redemption story and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.”
Despite it being a night to forget for Joshua, and one which may have strong repercussions for his whole career, he was philosophical and reflective following the defeat.
“Credit to him and his team,” Joshua said. “We rolled the dice of success, but we came up short. You know I’m ready to kick off in the ring, but I’m going to keep my cool, keep very professional and give respect to my opponent.
“I’m always saying to myself I’m a fighter for life… We keep rolling the dice. I had a sharp opponent, a fast opponent and a lot of mistakes from my end, but that’s the game.”
Whether he still feels that way after seeing the Raygun comparisons is hard to say. However, the prospect of Joshua facing another huge fight in his already inconsistent career now looks slim.
