Tyson Fury appears to take subtle dig at rival Anthony Joshua

‘The Gypsy King’ has once again taken a swipe at his heavyweight rival amid talks the boxing stars will finally settle the score in the ring

Boxing heavyweight star Tyson Fury has appeared to take a brutal swipe at rival Anthony Joshua, hinting his rival is “some commercial product” who’s worried about “losing a sponsorship.”

Fury, 36, has been taking some time away from the sport following his showdown with Oleksandr Usyk back in May. The Ukrainian became the first man to beat ‘The Gypsy King’ in a professional contest after the 37-year-old scored a split-decision victory in Riyadh. The two men are expected to go head-to-head once again in December, with the Englishman desperate to get his revenge.

While the Brit is firmly focused on his rematch with the Ukrainian, it would seem that he still has one eye on settling the score with Joshua. ‘AJ’ was beaten by Daniel Dubois in his last outing in September. ‘Dynamite’ went on to drop the two-time heavyweight champion four times in total before securing a sensational knockout in the fifth round to retain his IBF title.

Over the years, Fury hasn’t been afraid to trade barbs with his British rival. Recently, ‘The Gypsy King’ appeared to take a subtle dig at Joshua. Speaking in an interview ahead of the console release of boxing video game Undisputed, the 36-year-old said: “Over the years, I’ve had no filter,” he said. “There’s been no media training. There’s been nothing. I’ve just spoke what I thought and did what I said and tried to do the best I could in the boxing game.

“I’m not some commercial product who’s pumping out and is worried about losing a sponsorship, or saying the wrong things. I’ve been real and I’ve stayed true to myself, still the same old I’ve always been. From the beginning to the end, nothing much has changed.” In the same interview, Fury insisted that a fight with Joshua will happen before the end of their careers. After recently mocking ‘AJ’ on social media, the former two-time champion still believes his long-term rival is still on a trajectory to meet him.

“Joshua knows he’s getting it. Even if we’re 50 years old he’s got to fight me. There’s no escaping it, he cannot escape me. Even if we are 50, we’re still going to sell out Wembley. That is a fact, anybody they can all get it.” That said, he must first get through the rematch with Usyk before reigniting talks with Joshua. With just two months to go until the pair touch gloves once again, Fury revealed he is yet to begin his training camp and claimed he only needed a few weeks of preparation for the contest.

When recently asked how preparation for the rematch was going, he replied: “I haven’t started training yet. I won’t go into camp for a good while. I think I’ve got 13 weeks today until my fight. So, I’ll probably start training in about six weeks for it. I do about six/seven weeks training for these fights usually and I’ll be ready to rock and roll on the night.”
