Maura Higgins makes heartbreaking statement as she’s axed from I’m A Celebrity

Love Island star Maura Higgins made a sad confession in camp moments before she was voted out of I’m A Celebrity 2024, in scenes that aired on Friday night on ITV1

One campmate sadly confessed they weren’t ready to leave I’m A Celebrity moments before they were booted off the show in the public vote.

In cruel scenes Maura Higgins was shown confessing she wanted to stay on the ITV series, just before hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly announced she and Barry McGuigan were the latest stars to be vote off the show by the public.

Many viewers were surprised by the departures, with Maura and Barry favourites to make the final. Now, a new scene that aired on Friday following her exit on Thursday has shown she didn’t want to leave, despite revealing that she was “really happy” after leaving the jungle.

In the scene, Maura shared she “wasn’t ready” to go but said she felt it was her last day there before it was announced. She said: “I don’t want to go! I’m not ready to leave! But if it’s my time, it’s my time.” And her time it was as just moments later, Ant and Dec revealed her camp fate and Maura was out – with her admitting: “I knew it, I had that feeling.”

Her campmates were left reeling by her unexpected departure, with Coleen Rooney confessing Maura and Barry would be missed. She said of their departures: “I’m gutted. Two big personalities, they will be truly missed.”

After leaving camp she joined Ant and Dec in the studio to discuss her time on the show. She said: “I’m really happy! I said it last night, I said it this morning, I was like ‘It’s my time,’ I had a gut feeling and my gut feeling is never wrong!”

She added that she knew it was “tough” but the show was the “most amazing” experience. Maura told the hosts: “I really did embrace it, I didn’t think I’d embrace it as much as I have.” Maura explained that living in luxury when she first went in was filled with good memories, having been isolated with Reverend Richard Coles, who she branded a “lovely human.”

The star who found fame on Love Island explained it was “wild” that there had been no arguments in the camp this year, whereas in previous years, celebs have come to blows. When quizzed on who she wanted to win, Maura said: “I love every single one of them, I want Father Richard to win! He would not expect it.”

Viewers meanwhile were stunned by her exit. “Barry and Maura leaving is crazy #imaceleb,” said one fan on X, formerly known as Twitter. A second added: “Both Barry and Maura, OMG #imaceleb.” Meanwhile, a third commented: “Maura and Barry, WHAT?! #imaceleb.” Another angry fan tweeted: “Barry and Maura were final worthy, we’ve been robbed! #imaceleb.” “You all are MONSTERS for voting out Barry and Maura #imaceleb,” fumed another.
