Liam Payne’s devastated dad returned to a shrine at the scene of his late son’s death.

Geoff Payne flew out to Buenos Aires in the hours after Liam’s tragic death last month. Liam tragically fell to his death aged 31 two weeks ago, falling from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an “internal and external haemorrhage”.

The heartbroken father has remained in Argentina where Liam’s body has been held since his death as medical experts performed an autopsy and prepared for his body to be returned to the UK later this week. But Geoff has returned to Hotel CasaSur Palermo where Liam tragically fell.

Upon his return, he observed the floral tributes left by heartbroken fans following Liam’s death. Geoff stood alongside Liam’s fans outside of the hotel in the Argentine capital. He was seen holding a red rose, which he later placed on the shrine. The dad-of-three also hugged two emotional fans who handed him a lit candle, which he placed at the foot of the tree surrounding the floral tributes.

Geoff has been spending time in Argentina and has been visiting the British Cemetery where Liam’s body is being held ahead of his return to the UK. He was met at a chapel there by an employee who handed him a bouquet of flowers. Geoff first visited the shrine upon his arrival in Argentina last month, where he inspected the tributes.

He was joined by One Direction’s former bodyguard, Paul Higgins, with fans forming a protective barrier around the pair as they made their way into the hotel. While at CasaSur, Geoff headed to the second floor of the hotel and looked down from the balcony to the place where his son tragically died.

It’s believed that Liam’s body will be returned to the UK later this week in order for his family to prepare for his funeral. Sources claim that Liam’s life is set to be celebrated in a lavish ceremony in the coming days which will be a “very big send off”. Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: “Liam will have a very big send off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart. Liam was so loved by so many people, there will obviously be enormous demand and so the service will necessarily be a huge affair. The details are still under wraps until they are definitively signed off but should be announced very soon.”

However, it remains unclear as to whether the remembrance service will be separate from a funeral. The outlet reports though that thousands more well-wishers than can be accommodated at the remembrance service’s venue are expected to gather outside. It’s previously been reported that Liam’s funeral is expected to be private. As previously reported, a source told Radar Online: “His family want to keep his farewell low-key and respectful, as it’s what Liam would have wanted as he was so down to earth.”
