Tommy Fury claims Jake Paul was being ‘crafty’ when the date of their 2023 showdown was set a month after the birth of the Brit’s child, Bambi.

The pair finally went toe-to-toe in the ring in 2023 after several years of clashing on social media. Both men were expected to fight in December of 2021, however, Fury was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury. In August 2022, the clash was once again rebooked, but travel issues meant that the Brit was unable to step foot in the ring.

Thankfully for the two stars, third time was the charm as they settled the score in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia in February 2023. In a closely fought battle, it was Fury who got his hand raised, winning via split decision – as the official scorecards read 74–75, 76–73, 76–73.

It was a long road to fight night for the Brit after having to pull out twice, however, the 25-year-old still had to endure some pre-fight drama. The bout was officially booked February 26, but Fury’s daughter was due a month before.

Fury, divulged into a number of topics following the release of his memoir, Lightning Can Strike Twice: My Life as a Fury – just two months after his split from Molly-Mae Hague. One of the major talking points was his showdown with ‘The Problem Child’, and the Brit opened up about preparations for the 2023 contest.

While the offer in the Middle East was too good to turn down, ‘TNT’ suffered a wide range of problems outside the ring leading up to the bout. ”The date was set for 26 February 2023. Now, this was not a good news. My baby was due the month before, which meant I would be training throughout the end of Molly’s pregnancy, the birth, and then be away for the first week’s of my daughter’s life,” he wrote.

‘TNT’ accuses Paul of being ‘crafty’ in an attempt to get under his skin and putting the British star off training. “I think Jake Paul was being crafty because he knew it would disrupt my training and throw me off,” he continued. “It was now or never and if it was never, I knew I would be stuck with the ghost of this fight for years to come.”

Fury revealed that Molly convinced him to carry on with the showdown, with the former coming up with a plan and finding a way to balance both training and spending time with his newborn. “I spent nights up with the babying supporting Molly. In the morning, I dashed to Euston and got the train to Manchester, where I trained and sparred, before heading back to the station and then to the hospital for the evening. I did this for dive days.” He added: “I grabbed sleep wherever I could whether it was on the train or on the sofa in the hospital room. I don’t know how I did it, but I did.”
