Ben Shephard shared a rare insight into family life as he made a return to This Morning.

At the beginning of the show, Ben and Cat Deeley spoke about what they got up to during their summer break, which is when Ben made an admission about his son leaving the family home.

As the duo welcomed viewers, Ben said: “It is lovely to be back, we have missed you, have you missed us, everybody?”

Addressing the show’s new promo, Ben continued: “We had so much fun, that promo that was up on the roof, we had to be cherry-picked up there”

“And it took seven minutes for each person to go up and seven minutes to come down,” Cat chipped in. “It was hot, it was windy, there was no water, and I needed a pee.”

Welcoming his co-star back, the Tipping Point host said: “It is lovely to be back, did you have a nice summer? You look nice and tanned.”

“I had a really nice time,” Cat replied before adding: “Just hung out with the family. We went on holiday for a bit, and then we’re like, we’re all having such a nice time. shall we stay? How was yours? the boy is back, Annie must be so happy?”

Sharing an insight into his family life, Ben admitted: “Sam came home from travelling, which was very, very emotional.”

After a family snap appeared on screen, the ITV presenter explained: “Yeah that was the first day he was back, and we went for a walk through the park, and then we went to the pub.”

“I bet she hasn’t let them go,” Cat chimed in referring to Ben’s wife, to which he replied: “And every now and again I walk past and she’s just gazing at him.

“He’s been away for seven and a half months, off to university next week, back to school for lots of people today as well.”

Cat went on to admit her children were “a bit wobbly” on the prospect of going back to school.

Talk quickly turned to Ben’s new look, as he shared: “I had a very fertile chin experience this summer.”

“I like the beard,” Cat admitted. “Who is in favour? All say aye!”

Ben turning to guest Gyules Brandreth said: ” A very grumpy Gyles over there who’s not loving it.”

Gyles confessed: “I am not so sure. You young people, every male I now meet has got a beard, every young man has got a beard, and how nice that yours is pleasantly grizzled.”
