In the programme, which will run over three consecutive nights next week, the broadcaster discusses how he was forced to leave his job on This Morning after a fling with a much younger runner.

Ruling out a return to ITV, the former This Morning host said: “I’m apparently four to one to do the other jungle programme (ITV’s I’m A Celebrity).”

Clarifying his relationship with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, he added: “Although my best mates host it, there are some channels you just won’t work for.

“There are just some people you won’t work for.”

In the first episode of Cast Away, Phillip, who is still wearing his wedding ring, is seen in the garden of his London family home.

He is having a barbecue and handing food to his wife, Stephanie, as well as their two daughters, Molly, 31, and Ruby, 28,

Phillip will later fly to a deserted island, which sees him forced to forage and hunt for food and water and live in a flimsy shelter on the beach.

During the programme, the TV star also confirms that he didn’t resign from his job on This Morning, a position he’d held for 22 years, but that he was axed by ITV bosses.

Asked if he thought he might end up quitting the island, just off the coast of Madagascar, he replied: “It is inconceivable that I would quit.

“I don’t quit. I’m fired. But I never quit.”

Phillip Schofield breaks down in tears and admits This Morning scandal ‘destroyed’ him in first look at TV comeback
Phillip will be seen breaking down in tears while discussing his exit from ITV earlier last year.

As his voiceover plays in a trailer for Cast Away, Phillip can be seen raising a hand to his face as he cries.

He says: “I’ve been cast away on a desert island completely on my own.

“All I have is camera gear and I can say whatever I want about whatever I want.

“It’s my chance to tell my side of my story.”

Phillip adds: “I know what I did was unwise. But is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”
