Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid has opened up about her summer break ahead of her ITV show return.

The presenter, 53, hosted her last show back in July before enjoying a summer break and she is back in the studio on Monday 2 September. Talking about returning to work after her summer break, Susanna said: “I love doing my job – the news agenda has been so busy and I have been avidly watching GMB while I have been off. This autumn we have the US Presidential election coming up so that’s going to be huge.”

Speaking about her summer break, Susanna revealed she took her sons clubbing in Ibiza, she said: “This summer I took my boys to Ibiza. I have been going for ten years and it was amazing to really enjoy it with my boys now they are old enough to go clubbing. We go to the day clubs together and then I go back to the hotel and they go to the nightclubs!” Susanna shares sons Sam, 22, Finn, 20, and Jack, 19, with her ex-husband Dominic Cotton.

Despite having a summer break, Susanna admitted that her body clock is still attuned to her early Good Morning Britain starts. She said: “My body clock is so attuned to the early starts that I naturally wake at 3.40am even during the summer. I am able to go back to sleep very easily, but I also find it very easy to get up for work.” Talking about what she’s most excited about returning, she added: “We have such a great team of journalists and crew at GMB. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone. And the interaction with viewers – from 6-9am there is an ongoing conversation with those watching which informs and inspires our coverage.”

It comes as Susanna announced a break from Good Morning Britain back in July, revealing she won’t be back in the ITV studio until September. Ending the episode, Susanna said: “I’m going to say goodbye to you both because it’s now time for me to go off on a break, which means I say goodbye to you at home. You never know, I might pop up in the meantime, but otherwise, I will be back in September!”

This prompted co-host, Ed Balls, to respond in a four-word answer: “Do you have to?”, he added: “Can’t you just stay for a bit?” to which Susanna reassured him he would be in good hands amid her absence. Susanna insisted: “You will be in the capable hands of the rest of the Good Morning Britain team!”, pointing out “lovely” co-stars Charlotte Hawkins and Laura Tobin.

Viewers will recall that it is typical for ITV’s main presenters to take a long break over the summer with Lorraine and This Morning’s hosts also taking time away in the past. Taking to Twitter, now X, at the time viewers were quick to react to Susanna’s announcement as one person said: “Susanna Reid is the only reason to watch #GMB!” while another quipped: “Off til Sept? Yes, rub it in Susanna #gmb.”
