Kim Kardashian’s latest transformation was inspired by one of her Met Gala looks.

The SKIMS founder posted a carousel of selfies on Instagram on Tuesday, July 30, which saw her transform into Marilyn Monroe. The pictures showed Kim looking down as she posed for the camera wearing a red top with a V neck-line, a black fur jacket pulled over her shoulders and her platinum blonde hair styled like Marilyn’s.

Some might remember Kim’s iconic but most controversial Met Gala look in 2022. Kim wore the dress Marilyn wore to serenade then-president John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday in 1962. The dress was displayed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Hollywood, California, which Kim got permission to wear but it was not easy.

When she wore the dress to the Met, many were torn over how they felt about Kim’s new look. One person wrote: “Met ball hair?,” with two laughing emojis. Another wrote: “Marlyn,” with the heart eyes emoji. A third commented: “Oh my gosh, she looks beautiful, but I don’t know if she’s a Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn is my idol and oh boy she was hot back in the day that is for sure. Don’t worry, Kim you’re hot too. Marilyn is different.” A fourth wrote: “Monroe,” with three red heart emojis.

In an episode of The Kardashians, streamed on Hulu, Kim gave fans a glimpse of what it was like to be able to fit into the iconic dress and the measures she had to take. When she first tried on a replica of dress, it fit well but she admitted she still needed to lose some weight in order for dress to close in the back.

Ripley quickly ripped the opportunity out of Kim’s hands but she convinced them to give her one shot and prove that she would be able to fit into the original. She admitted to having to lose 16lbs, with the dress then fitting perfectly. She was eventually allowed to wear the dress for a matter of minutes for the show’s red carpet, where she then swapped into the replica for the rest of the night.

Later, Kim caused controversy after reports came in that she damaged the garment but both Kim and Ripley denied these claims.
