As the couple prepared to host the soap segment, Ruth brought up the topic of bitter break-ups following Paul’s split from girlfriend Summer that weekend.

The pair’s relationship came to a turbulent end after the barmaid, then 24, reportedly refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement for the Great British Bake Off star, then 53, and since then the pair exchanged scathing remarks thanks to a slew of cryptic tweets.

Eamonn explained to viewers: ‘The baker, the Great British Bake Off man, Paul Hollywood. He’s a 53-year-old of age and everyone is outraged he’s got a girlfriend called Summer, not because she’s called Summer, but because she’s 24.’

It seemed then that the Irish presenter was planning to defend Paul, turning to Ruth and saying: ‘People like you, huffing and puffing, going ”well.” Say I ran off with a 24-year-old?’

But Ruth then appeared to address any younger women who were watching, adding: ‘Take him, seriously, he’s yours.’

Eamonn quipped he would be stuck with a ‘spiteful ex’ if he opted to leave Ruth, so she said: ‘I would be so spiteful. You wouldn’t want me.’

The ironic moment was this week highlighted by Summer Monteys-Fullam, now 28, who took to Instagram to make a dig at the former couple mocking her then romance.

Sharing a grab of an article documenting Eammon’s holiday with his new love, who is 22 years his junior, Summer circled the age gap as she remarked: ‘Do I need to say anything else?’ alongside laughing emojis.

Ruth returned to screens today to appear on Loose Women – but a couple of viewers claimed she wasn’t her usual cheerful self.

One wrote: ‘You can tell that Ruth has been hurting from the pictures of Eamonn with her younger blondie, Ruth looks like she has been crying as her eyes looks puffed up.’

Another chimed in: ‘Cannot be easy for Ruth when Eamonn features in most newspapers.’

It comes as Eamonn and Ruth have decided not to attend the National Television Awards on Wednesday night.

The GB News presenter is avoiding the annual star-studded night to enjoy a luxury holiday with his new girlfriend instead.

While the broadcaster hasn’t been nominated for an award, Eamonn is still swerving invites to watch the awards in a box, reports The Express .

Loose Women host Ruth, also 64, also decided to snub the NTAs to ‘prevent an awkward run-in’ with Eamonn, prior to his romantic trip with Katie – despite the ITV lunchtime show being up for an award.

The couple have been frequent guests as the NTAs and last appeared on the red carpet arm-in-arm in 2021.

A source told the publication: ‘Organisers of the bash very much wanted Eamonn and Ruth to attend; they are well loved.

‘But they aren’t nominated and they haven’t taken up invites to be in boxes to watch the show. Those around them think that they want to avoid any run-ins or unwanted attention at all costs.

MailOnline have contacted Eamonn and Ruth’s representatives for a comment.

Eamonn travelled to Barcelona with Katie to go on a sun-soaked Mediterranean cruise on Sunday, just months after his 14-year marriage collapsed.

The couple, who were revealed to be dating after the split, flew from Heathrow Airport this morning before landing in Barcelona for the luxury holiday.

The holiday, which has been taken during Eamonn’s summer break from his GB News Breakfast show, is said to have left Ruth and her friends shocked, a source claims.

Speaking about the holiday, which is set to last a week with Eamonn scheduled to be back on TV next week, a source told The Sun: ‘The cruise is just the latest proof of their closeness.
