Wynne Evans has addressed his tense Strictly dance-off with Shayne Ward – revealing why he thinks Shirley Ballas saved him in the Strictly dance-off on Sunday night.
It comes after the Radio Wales DJ and head judge were hit with a huge wave of backlash on social media at the weekend over the result, with fans particularly angry after Shirley chose to save Wynne because his performance was more “joyous”. Shayne and pro-partner Nancy Xu had been performing a rumba.
Joining Radio Wales co-stars Dot Davies and James Williams ahead of his show airing this morning, Dot exclaimed how it had been a “stressful” night, exclaiming: “I don’t want you to do that again!” She continued: “I’ve always said [Shirley’s] a good girl, I’ve always liked that Shirley. Good girl, saw sense!”
Wynne went on to explain how it had felt being in the dance-off and why he felt he had been saved. “Gosh, I tell you. It was pretty nerve-wracking to say. And also I think a approach it from a different angle, I think, to some people because I’m having a good time, thrilled to be there.”

He went on to say that it felt like he hadn’t done anything in months other than dance training as he was so exhausted. “I was talking to Pete Wicks about this last night and we were saying, do you remember how we used to go to the pub with our mates? Cos we’ve been in Strictly, in the bubble, for three months and so I haven’t been out, I haven’t done anything. I mean, Sundays you can go out if you want – last night I was in the ice bath so yeah…”
Opening his show today, he continued the Strictly chat by asking listeners about their “little wins”, cheekily adding: “Ex-girlfriends need not ring in.”

Going into more detail about how he felt during the dance-off, he said: “Oh when that light goes red! Great, thank you very much for that, that’s just what I wanted to do. But really, what a thrill. I tell you what, I was stood there and Craig went with Shayne and then Motsi went with Shayne and then Anton went with me and then it’s just down to Shirley – oh gosh! I tell you, a little bit of wee did come out.
“You get so nervous, don’t you! You get so nervous with the old dance off. Anyway, what a thrill – made it through to Blackpool! And Shayne, what a lovely guy Shayne. What a lovely, lovely bloke, honestly.”
Wynne will be joining all of the other Strictly competitors next week for the much-famed Blackpool Week as they all inch closer to Glitterball glory.
