Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was left fighting tears on Thursday’s instalment of the ITV show when a devastated mother shared her story of her daughter’s traumatic death.
Abimbola Duyile, who is a mum-of-two, was left devastated when her 13-year-old daughter Hannah died after drinking one sip from Costa hot chocolate. Hannah had a severe allergy to dairy, and was accidently served the hot drink with dairy milk which ultimately led to her traumatic passing.
Devastated mum Abimbola appeared on Good Morning Britain to share her heartbreaking family story in a bid to spread awareness for other parents and those who also live with severe allergies.
Speaking to host Susanna, 53, the brave mother recounted Hannah’s last moments as she said that her daughter died terrified and screaming after ingesting the dairy milk that was served to her.
Abimbola insisted that everyone who lives with food allergies should carry an EpiPen with them at all times, after she lost her daughter too soon. Susanna told the grieving mum: “We really need to share your information, because what happened to Hannah should not have happened. I know that you don’t want any other parent to ever be in this situation.”
Explaining the devastating circumstances of her beloved daughter’s death, the brave mum said: “For a mother to go through this, or for any parent to go through this, it’s very hard. It’s terrible. It’s not a good feeling, because you’ve lost you world. I’ve got two kids and my kids are my world.
“No parent should go through this or suffer this way. To see your child suffer their last breath on earth screaming – that is painful. She was asking if she was going to die. I just want anyone that is struggling or that has got allergies, to make sure this never happens to them or ever again.”
Following Abimbola’s incredibly brave appearance alongside Susanna, ITV viewers flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise the grieving mum. One viewer shared: “This poor woman on GMB. I cannot even imagine the pain and trauma of that. Losing your child in those circumstances is bad enough, but having to witness your child terrified and taking their last breath. It’s beyond horrific.”

Another echoed: “Abimbola is literally living my worst nightmare. My child also has severe food allergies and this has always been my biggest worry. How can that corporation live with themselves. That little girl had her entire life ahead of her. So so so heartbreaking.”
Another Good Morning Britain viewer added: “I am bawling. Watching this poor woman be so open and raw about her lovely daughter’s death, I can’t even comprehend it.”
“If the barista followed the procedure then I promise you, we wouldn’t be in this situation. It makes me angry, very angry,” her mum said. “I don’t think the world knows how deadly it is to be honest. If you can train your staff and use the word deadly, and I’m sorry because I use that word because it took my child, but if you say deadly I think it could change things.”
After Hannah’s inquest concluded earlier this year, Costa Coffee released a statement calling Hannah’s death a “tragedy”. The statement read: “Understanding how this awful situation occurred is in the interest of everyone – our franchise partners, our customers, our team members, and the communities of which we are a part.”
