Eddie Hearn recently spoke with boxing reporter Michael Benson and shared his thoughts on Terence Crawford’s future. According to Hearn, Crawford may not be interested in fighting Vergil Ortiz or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis due to the substantial earnings from his recent bouts. Hearn believes Crawford is only motivated to return to the ring for a high-profile fight with Canelo Alvarez. Hearn stated:
“I don’t think Crawford will fight again because I think he’s made really solid money in his last couple of fights. I don’t think he wants to fight Vergil Ortiz or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. the only way Crawford will fight again is Canelo Alvarez because he’s got used to that pay. He probably thinks he’ll fight again, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t. So inactive as well. I think he’s happy to sit out until the end of next year. He’ll be just waiting [for] if the Canelo fight comes up.”
Why Canelo Alvarez Rejected a Fight with Terence Crawford
Turki Alalshikh had been actively seeking a fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez. However, when Canelo was asked about the possibility of fighting Crawford, he made it clear that he wasn’t particularly interested. Later, when Turki Alalshikh mentioned that he was no longer interested in pursuing the fight, he continued to criticize Canelo, suggesting that his reluctance might be due to his ego.
Whether Crawford might eventually move up to 168 pounds remains uncertain, as the gap between their weight classes is considerable. For now, it appears that a fight between the two remains unlikely.
