British boxing star Tommy Fury has sensationally admitted that he sparred one-handed ahead of his showdown with YouTuber KSI.

After dipping his toe into the world of influencer boxing against Jake Paul, Fury developed a bit of a taste for going toe-to-toe with the big names on social media.

Despite the pair agreeing to settle their rivalry in the ring back in October 2023, KSI revealed he only accepted the fight in a bid to face Paul – which is still yet to materialise since the Fury bout.

“I wouldn’t give Tommy Fury any chance,” KSI told Fred Talks Fighting in an interview ahead of the bout. “No chance, no point. Literally because Jake Paul fought him and lost to him is the only reason why I’m fighting Tommy Fury in a few weeks. I wanted to fight Jake Paul, Jake p****ed out so I’m like ‘cool, I’ll just fight the guy and beat the guy that you lost to, then what’ it’s checkmate.”

Leading up to the showdown with KSI – real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji – Fury revealed he felt an electric shock after he hit his sparring partner with a flush shot. An X-ray revealed that there was torn ligaments and bone damage. Contemplating about pulling out of the contest, the young Brit sat down with his team and admitted he couldn’t face withdrawing from the event.

Fury divulged into a number of topics following the release of his memoir, Lightning Can Strike Twice: My Life as a Fury – just two months after his split from Molly-Mae Hague. His father, John, questioned Tommy’s reasons for going ahead with the bout, but the 25-year-old was determined to fight through the pain and take on the YouTuber.

“I decided I would get through camp by using my left hand for the next seven weeks and not use my right hand until the week of the fight,” he wrote. “I would have to spar one-handed.”

He added: “This time, the camp was physically and mentally tough because I couldn’t get the best out of myself; I was using one hand against people who had two. In addition, any movement hurt my right hand and at night it throbbed continually, so it interrupted my sleep.”

Despite the severe issues leading up to the showdown in Manchester, Fury was able to get the better of his opponent, winning via a majority decision. After getting his hand raised, ‘TNT’ revealed he was done with influencer boxing and has yet to return to the ring since the clash with the YouTube star.
