The TV personality, 77, exclaimed at this: “In the last three weeks, I feel like I’ve aged about 10 years.

“This is the hip replacement I was told earlier in the year, March, to get on with it. I had the MRI scan, it showed no cushioning on my hip at all, they said you’ve got to have it done quickly. So, what did I do, I thought: ‘Oh, I’ll just have a few pain killing injections.’

“They didn’t work and then finally I’m going to have it [the operation] a week on Friday. I will be hanging up bunting around my hospital bed because in the last month in particular I’ve got to the stage and this is exactly what it was like before my knee replacement. Suddenly you think: ‘I can’t go up the stairs without doing it one step at a time…’”

Janet went on to say: “You’re thinking about it all the time, not sleeping, my sleeping has gone down to two hours, then you wake up because your knees are killing you, hip killing you. I think one of the things about getting old that is really really tough is how do you live with any level of pain as it just drives you mad. You look at the way you’re walking, you’re turning in on yourself.

“It’s affecting my voice now as well. My voice is rubbish. I’ve got no energy to sustain my voice, every time I eat… I feel a little bit…”

The star was of course comforted by her fellow panel, consisting of Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Katie Piper.

Get well soon Janet!
