The Real Housewives of Potomac star Matthew Byars shared a devastating post on social media a year before his death.
The talent manager, who appeared on the hit Bravo reality TV show, tragically died aged 37. Stars of the Real Housewives series have paid tribute to Matthew in heartbreaking statements. Matthew is known to viewers for appearing on the show’s third season as The Real Housewives of Potomac’s star Karen Huger introduced him.
He was part of Karen’s infamous “press conference” where she tried to clear up rumours about her financial situation. Back in 2019, Karen revealed she had first met Matthew when he was a teenager and that they were “true friends”. A year before his death, Matthew shared what would become his last Instagram post.
Matthew posted a photo of himself next to legendary singer Tony Bennett as they smiled together. Alongside the video, he wrote: “The world lost an icon today. I low-key owe my career to Tony Bennett. Here is my fav pic of us together at the Kennedy Center. Notice a frantic Martin Short in the background.
“I know I haven’t posted in a long time (besides stories) promise to post more. Love y’all. #tonybennett #martinshort #kennedycenter #dc.” Matthew’s friend and Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga issued a heartbreaking statement following the news of his death.

She wrote: “Matt – Why didn’t you tell me Matt? I’m heartbroken. Your personality was infectious. Your jokes – you always had them. You should have done stand up – I know it was your dream. My heart hurts Matt. Because earlier this week you didn’t tell me. I know life was tough – I know – Thank you for bringing me my very 1st performance of ‘ON DISPLAY’ – you and I – WE ARE LOYAL.
“They don’t make them like us. I wish I could have saved you. Thank you for the memories. Go fly – Go make them laugh.” Real Housewives of Potomac’s Charrisse Jackson-Jordan also issued a tribute by sharing a picture of them both. Alongside the photo, she wrote: “Rest in Peace.”
Shahs of Sunsets’ Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi issued a tribute to Matthew as she wrote: “Noooo! I’ve known Matt since the beginning of being on TV as well. I did all my bookings around the nation together with him. What an amazing soul and kind human!” Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Rachel Fuda added: “Such a deep loss. So sorry Melis. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten.”
Digital creator Peter Panos commented: “He was such a sweet human being.” A social media user wrote: “He was such a good guy, just heartbreaking. I wish I had known as well.” Karen brought Matthew onto The Real Housewives of Potomac for support but her co-stars were confused about who he was. Ashley Darby said she thought he was her lawyer. Matthew would appear in several other episodes throughout the show.
