As TV fans continue to watch Phillip Schofield take on the task of surviving alone on a desert island, tonight they will hear him mention his brother.

The former This Morning presenter, 62, has been filming his every move after being left on the islands off Madagascar for Channel 5’s Cast Away. As part of the 10-day challenge, Phillip has been opening up with his feelings after quitting his ITV role last year for what he called an “unwise, but not illegal” relationship with a much younger colleague.

The show was billed as “an authentic and intense physical and mental challenge” and in the first two episodes he has reflected on the moments that left his career in tatters. However, he also took aim at those close to him, saying: “I miss parts of it. I miss most of it. There are bits I really, really don’t miss. You learn a lot about people. You learn a lot about people. I don’t miss that.”

Now, as the final part is set to air, Phillip is heard discussing his brother, Timothy. Last year, Phillip’s younger sibling was sentenced to 12 years behind bars, having been found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy. The abuse was found to have happened over the course of a three-year period with the former civilian IT consultant for Avon and Somerset Police charged with 11 sexual offences involving a child between the years 2016 and 2019. Two of the offences were for sexual activity with a child.

At the time, Phillip released a damning statement in which he called Timothy’s crimes as “despicable”. He revealed his decision to completely disavow his brother, declaring, “I no longer have a brother”. Sharing a post on social media at the time, Phillip said: “My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected. If any crime had ever been confessed to me by my brother, I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and their family. These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts. As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother.”

Phillip told police in a statement about how he found out about his brother’s crimes. The statement explained how Timothy had confided in him in September 2021 following a meal at the presenter’s London home, at which point he was suicidal and ‘in a state of heightened agitation’. The court heard how Phillip had shouted at Timothy after he admitted that he’d ‘watched porn… and (masturbated)’ with a teenager.

Phillip revealed he told his brother he “didn’t want to know any of the details but he [Timothy] made it sound like a one-off”, before he said he made it clear to Timothy that “it should never happen again”. The former Dancing on Ice presenter recalled: “I was washing up and Tim was standing behind me and he said, ‘You are going to hate me for what I am about to say’. I said there was nothing he could say that would make me hate him. Then he said that he and (the teenager) had time together and that last year they had watched porn… and (masturbated).”

“I turned and said, ‘What did you just say?’ He said it was last year and we were alone together. Tim said it was just this once. I told him it should never happen again. He then started to tell me about (the boy’s) body. I said, ‘F***, stop.’ I shouted at Tim that he had to stop. I didn’t want to know any of the details but he made it sound like a one-off.

“I said, ‘I don’t want you to tell me anymore’. I said, ‘You’ve got to stop, just never do it again. Regardless how that happened it must never happen again’.” In Phillip’s written statement, he said he advised his brother to seek medical advice and counselling ‘to take the edge of the anger’. Three months later, Timothy was arrested.
