One sports media member is criticizing the 2024 BET Awards for including O.J. Simpson in their “in memoriam” segment, alongside deceased figures like Willie Mays and Carl Weathers.

Simpson, acquitted of murder charges in the 90’s, passed away this year.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith expressed his frustration on his podcast, stating that Simpson, a convicted felon, should not have been honored in a show meant to celebrate black culture.

Smith emphasized that Simpson never cared about black people until he faced trial and should not be celebrated, especially considering the serious accusations against him.

Fred Goldman, father of one of Simpson’s alleged victims, also voiced his disapproval of Simpson’s inclusion, calling it “inappropriate”.

The controversial decision has sparked outrage and critique from various individuals, including prominent figures like Smith and Goldman.
