Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David Jason was left scratching his head when The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades made an unusual plea.

In his latest memoir, the national treasure shared how he was brought back to the small screen or rather his beloved character Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter was in December 2021, thanks to a bizarre enquiry from Jay Blades.

As the festive season approached in 2021 and Strictly Come Dancing was gearing up for its Christmas Day extravaganza, Sir David got a blinder of a call from the show’s producers. They wanted to know if Blades could throw some shapes to the iconic Only Fools and Horses theme tune, given that he’s a superfan of the classic sitcom.

Sir David was gobsmacked by the oddball request, confessing: “My first reaction was: he’s possibly not quite right in the head. My second reaction was: I should definitely agree to send him a message of encouragement, via video, that the show can use on the night.”

True to Strictly’s flamboyant flair, Blades even slipped into Del Boy’s signature garb for his twirl around the dance floor with Luba Mushtuk.

Sir David conceded that Blades’ performance was a toss-up, noting: “I mean, dancing to ‘Hooky Street’? Dressed as Del Boy? This was going to be either the world’s biggest ever victory over the odds, or the greatest disaster in the history of televised pro-celebrity ballroom dancing since Ann Widdecombe did the samba.”, reports Birmingham Live.

Meanwhile, numerous Strictly enthusiasts have been left puzzled as to why they’ve never witnessed the 84 year old showcasing his ballroom dancing prowess on the programme before, but he confessed that he has never received an invitation to participate.

Sir David revealed that he was approached to feature in Strictly’s 2012 Christmas special, but declined the offer from BBC executives. Blades and Sir David rekindled their connection earlier this year on David and Jay’s Touring Toolshed, a 15-part restoration series broadcasted on BBC Two.

Blades made an appearance at Worcester Crown Court today (Friday, October 11), as he faced a single charge of engaging in controlling or coerc!ve behaviour towards his wife Lisa Zbozen. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
