Liam Cameron makes sensational claim about Ben Whittaker after fight ends in controversial draw

The fight between Cameron and Whittaker ended in controversial fashion.

Liam Cameron has made a major claim about opponent Ben Whittaker and his corner after their middleweight fight in Saudi Arabia ended in a controversial draw.

During the fifth round of the fight, both boxers fell over the top rope and on to the floor.

Doctors were forced to tend to Whittaker over suspected ankle and back injuries.

Although he was able to return to his stool, the fight was waved off as a draw with Whittaker appearing to suffer an ankle injury.

He then left the arena in Riyadh in a wheelchair.

The pair had been involved in a clinch before then moving towards the ropes in the fifth round.

Whittaker then fell backwards and out of the ring, with the momentum taking Cameron with him. Whittaker appeared to land hard on his back on the ring apron.

Many fans felt Cameron was ahead on the scorecards at the time of the incident and were furious with the draw outcome.

And the man himself was also less than happy in his post-fight interview with TNT Sports.

When asked whether he’d heard anything Whittaker’s camp had said, he alleged: “His corner said, ‘Stay down and pretend you’re hurt.’ Allegedly.

“I want either a rematch or something better. Ben deserves the rematch.

“I think I was a bit hard done by. He’s the golden boy here, and I’ve just ripped the script up.”

SPORTbible has contacted Ben Whittaker’s representatives for comment.

In a separate interview with DAZN, Cameron claimed that Whittaker was ‘looking for a way out’: “You will be able to see it on camera. You can tell.”

Whittaker had won all eight of his professional fights before tonight’s draw, with five of those being by knockout.

Cameron, meanwhile, had won three out of his last four fights since his return to boxing last year.

The 33-year-old failed a drugs test after defeating Nicky Jenman in 2018. He was found guilty of an anti-doping violation and given a four-year ban from boxing. An appeal against the ban was unsuccessful.

Cameron denied intentionally taking any substance and said he ‘couldn’t fathom how it happened’.
