Phillip Schofield accidentally burnt his tent to a crisp after lighting a fire to ‘scare away a big cat’ in a chaotic finally episode of Cast Away.

The former This Morning presenter, 62, flew out to Madagascar to fend for himself on an island for 10 days as he made his TV comeback after stepping down from the ITV show last May following an ‘unwise’ affair with a junior colleague.

And in the third and final episode of the show, which aired on Wednesday, Phillip suffered a catastrophe when he accidentally lit his tent and camp on fire – destroying his entire sleeping area.

Phillip was convinced he had seen pawprints in the sand before hearing what he described as a ‘big cat’ alter in the night. He started a campfire to fend the animal off but disaster struck after a blaze ripped through his tent.

The episode saw further chaos when Phillip decided to strip naked and go skinny dipping in the middle of the night to mark the end of his 10-day cast away.

‘I thought I heard a sort of cat-like noise, like the sound of a cat fighting but bigger,’ Phillip said, describing the animal he had heard.

He then decided to use his emergency radio to contact survivalist Roger, who said: ‘Maybe you should just try and extend your fire – so a star fire or a long fire – and just keep that fire going a little bit longer than what you have been doing.

‘Further recommendations are that you ensure that you have your primary cutting tool with you at all times, your radio with you at all times, over.’

The presenter could be seen mouthing ‘What the f***’ as he was given the advice by Roger.

‘As I was sleeping disaster struck,’ Phillip said in a voice over. ‘My star fire swept out of control and set my camp ablaze.’

Speaking to the camera in the aftermath of the fire, Phillip added: ‘Thank god I heard it.’

Viewers were later left shocked when the TV personality decided to strip off and end his experience with a naked swim.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, ‘Did we really have to see Philip Schofield’s naked bottom?’;

‘Did any of us need to see him naked?? Narcissist,’; ‘Sweet Jesus, I’ve just seen his a***,’;

‘So phillip schofield on cast away after everything that’s happened, believed it was a great idea to strip off and run into the surf to go skinny dipping, in the same episode he states “I’m not stupid”. He knkows exactly what he’s doing during this show and it seems very contrived,’;

‘Why’s phillip schofield just ran across my tv naked may i ask?’;

‘Oh Jesus. That’s his audition for the new series of Naked Jungle (formerly with Keith Chegwin) in the bag for Channel 5.’

In Tuesday’s episode, Phillip confessed that while he feels he has been ‘chucked under the bus’ he could easily do the same to them.

He insisted: ‘I have been chucked under a bus and I could drive the same bus over so many people but I am not that sort of person.

‘I never have been, but if I sit down with a camera and the lights going, who knows what I will say.’

The star also reflected on how his famous friends deserted him after his affair was revealed as he continued: ‘I know what I did and I wish I hadn’t and I know I made life tough for the people i love the most.

‘But people just went, people who I thought were my friends just went. And it’s like “What the hell”.’

He added: ‘I think another presenter or two might have done the same thing, difference is heterosexual.’

Later in episode he explained: ‘It is hard to come to the fact that the people you thought you knew are not the people you knew.’
