A Strictly Come Dancing professional was left fighting back tears after addressing the judges’ critiques in the latest episode of It Takes Two.

Nancy Xu, 33, choked back sobs as she discussed her Halloween routine with her partner Shayne Ward, 40.

Nancy and Shayne once again found themselves in the dance off on Sunday’s results show after their orchestra-inspired Pasodoble routine divided opinion.

After finding themselves in the dance-off, they went head-to-head against Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez, successfully securing their place in next week’s show.

But looking back at their performance, Nancy became visibly emotional.

The professional dancer’s voice began to crack and she welled up as she told host Fleur East that they had tried their hardest and wanted to make memories when they danced.

She hit back at the judges, saying that Strictly was not always about the correct technique, but about entertaining viewers, which she believed she had done.

She said: ‘We tried to bring everything we could possibly bring to the show and if it’s still not enough, we will keep pushing.

‘I feel as choreographer, we want to make more memories on this dance floor, especially on the 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing.

‘We want to give more memories.’

Shayne then put his arm around his partner to comfort her before telling her she had done amazingly well.

And this isn’t the first time the X Factor star and his partner have had to address criticism.

Last month the singer hit back at Strictly fans after they branded him ‘cocky’ and ‘insufferable’ on the hit show.

During the performance, there was no shortage of stage presence as Shayne put on a brilliant performance in an all-black sparkly outfit to dance a Samba to Stevie Wonder’s Do I Do.

However, his energetic dance was too much for viewers at home as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain the star appeared ‘overconfident’.

One fan wrote: ‘If Shayne Ward was made of chocolate he’d lick himself.’; ‘Find someone that loves you as much as Shayne Ward loves himself.’

However, Shayne took to his Instagram to assure fans that their statements couldn’t be further from the truth.

Posting a glum black-and-white selfie, Shayne said: ‘Strictly is amazing and I love being part of it.’

‘But through my smile on TV I’m as nervous as the next person.’

‘Not cocky or overconfident… I’m nervous!’

‘I just gotta work hard and listen to my wonderful teacher Nancy Xiu. All I can do is my best!’
